George F. Cloutier of Windham, born on December 18, 1922, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 after a long illness on March 23, 2013 at Douglas Manor in Windham. George entered the work force as an employee for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and later went on to become a WWII Navy veteran. Upon returning to Connecticut he attended the UConn college of Agriculture and Natural Resources, graduating in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in forestry. He was employed by the State of Connecticut Park and Forestry Department as well as the Department of Environmental Protection. Upon completion of his retirement as a forester for the State of Connecticut for 28 years, he had his own forestry consulting business and taught dendrology classes at UConn. George loved hunting and fishing but managing his 105 acre tree farm and woodland was truly his labor of love. George spent his entire life working to leave the world an environmentally better place and he was rewarded for his conservation efforts when he received the Connecticut Tree Farm of the Year Award in 1995. George was a member of the Windham Fish and Game Club, the Society of American Foresters and also an honorary member of the Fin, Fur and Feather Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Catherine (Hornberger) Cloutier, his brothers, Arthur, Homer, Paul, Robert and Joseph and also sisters Evelyn (Cloutier) Barrett and Louise Cloutier. He is survived by his loving wife Betsy (Samson) Cloutier to whom he was married for 57 years and a sister, Florence Pardus as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
