George A. Bacon

George Arthur Bacon, 79, of Willimantic, husband of Helen (Williams) Bacon, passed away Jan. 29, 2014 at home with his wife at his side. He was born in Willimantic on Aug. 22, 1934 the son of the late Edmond J. and Yvonne (Bergevin) Bacon. George attended St. Mary School and Windham High School and retired from The Chronicle after 30 years of service. He was a former president of Franco American Civic and Social Club and a member of Willimantic Elks Lodge and Willimantic VFW. George enjoyed playing cards and golf. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and also enjoyed UConn men's and women's basketball. In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by son John Bacon and his wife Terri of Laconia, NH, daughter Michelle Donahue and her husband Tim of Brockton, MA, son Mark Bacon and his wife Katie of Quincy, MA, six grandchildren, Aime Jo, Rebecca, Trevor, Talia, Nolan and Hudson; a sister Alma Zoldak and her husband Frank, two brothers, Louis E. Bacon and his wife Carol and Lawrence Bacon and his wife Arline; a special sister in law and brother in law Lynn and Terry McCollum and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Agnes Lis. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at the Windham Dialysis Center for their care of George and a special thank you to Dr. Michael Kilgannon for his many years of dedicated care. His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Feb. 1, 2014 between 9:00am and 10:30am at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic prior to his 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT 06226.
