George B. Armstrong, 79, of North Windham, formerly of Franklin, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at his home. He was born December 29, 1929 in Lebanon, the son of Stanley and Elinor (Bond) Armstrong and had lived in Franklin all his life, moving to North Windham six years ago. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as a staff sergeant in Korea from 1950 to 1951. He was a charter member and former post commander of the Franklin V.F.W. and a member of the Willimantic Elks Lodge. George was the school bus contractor for the Franklin School System for many years prior to becoming a postal carrier for the Franklin Post Office, a position from which he retired. He is survived by three children, Cynthia Brown and her husband Bill of Norwich, Cheryl Chamberland and her husband Harvey of Lebanon, Elinor Kelly and her husband Shawn of Corte Madera, CA, a brother, Fred Armstrong of Montville, his life long best friend, Bert Kingsley of Lebanon, five grandchildren, Josh Benson, Shawn Fournier, Justin Fournier, Brandon Lisee and Seth Lisee, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends on Monday at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Franklin Congregational Church, 31 Meeting House Hill Rd., Franklin.
