Gary R. Simmons, of Bellingham, MA, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was 60 years old. Gary was born in Willimantic, CT on December 14, 1953, the son of George and Jacqueline (Poirier) Simmons. He had spent over 35 years as the Parts Manager, a career he took great pride in, at a number of automotive dealerships in Connecticut, Massachusetts and most recently Rhode Island. A long time lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed gardening, the beach, fishing, and traveling. He also loved driving with the top down on his Corvette with his partner Nancy, and was a member of the South Shore Corvette Club. When not outside, he loved cooking his favorite recipes for gatherings and working on his and his family's homes. In fact he was such a handyman that he had two of most of his tools; one to use and one to share. But most of all Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Rishi, Ryan and Hannah. He leaves his long time partner Nancy Streeter, and is survived by his two sons Matthew Simmons and his wife Jui of Framingham, MA, and Kevin Simmons and his fiancAC. Monica Terry of Belmont, MA, as well as three step-children, Elizabeth, Daniel and Joseph Katz of North Branford, CT, and his grandchildren Rishi, Ryan and Hannah. He also leaves his brothers Rick Simmons and his wife Mary, Paul Simmons and his wife Rhonda, Tom Simmons and his partner Martha Dwyer, John Simmons and his wife Kris, as well as his sisters Marybeth LaFlamme and her husband Scott, and Tammy Chilly, and many loving nieces and nephews, all from the Willimantic area. A wake and short service will be held at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St, Willimantic, CT from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Please visit
