Gary "Ace" Marshall Obituary
Gary "Ace" Lee Marshall, who was a beloved member of our community, 77, passed away on December 24, 2023, in North Windham, CT. Gary was born on November 24, 1946, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT, to the late William J. Marshall, Jr. and Mildred “Polly” (Kalin) Marshall.
Gary spent his formative years in CT and later resided in Clairmont, CA, before returning to his hometown. In 1964, he graduated from Windham High School. Shortly after, Gary enlisted in the US Air Force, serving a 4-year term with 2 years spent in Vietnam. Following his honorable service, he joined The Kendall Company until its closure in 1983. Gary then dedicated many years of his life to the University of Connecticut, working in Dining Services as a chef. He was affectionately known as "Ace" during his time there. While on summer breaks from UCONN, Gary worked as a chef at the New London County 4H camp. After semi-retiring from UCONN, he continued his career in dining services for Windham School System.
In his earlier years, Gary found joy in playing golf, fishing, and drawing caricatures of his loved ones. He also had a passion for baking bread and sharing it with family and friends. As time went on, he took pleasure in watching golf on TV and playing Yahtzee with his family.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Joann (Gifford) Marshall, his daughter Jamie and her wife Jennifer Marshall of Houston, TX, stepdaughter Donna and her husband Dan Drauss, Sr. of Lebanon, CT, stepdaughter Michelle and her husband Paul Peruccio of Lebanon, CT, stepdaughter Donna Rymash of North Windham, CT, sister Sandy Ballif of Charlottesville, VA, and sister Donna and her husband Roland Chaput of Windham, CT. Additionally, he will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Joe Sands and his wife Jessica, Jimmy Sands, Daniel Drauss, Jr., Jessica Peruccio and Megan Dziekan as well as his great-grandchildren Sarah Sands, Kyle Sands, Jason Sands and his nieces and nephews.
Gary was known for his kindness, easy-going nature, and caring demeanor. He touched many lives. His loss will be deeply felt by his loving family and many friends.

Gary’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. His graveside service will be on Wednesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00am at Windham Center Cemetery, 219 Windham Center Rd. Windham.
