Gail Satterlee Obituary
Gail Satterlee of Ashford, CT died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 5 at her family homestead. Gail was known for her quick wit, love of laughter, a kind heart, and her deep love for animals.
Born Gail Louise Chatey on August 19, 1950, to parents Louis and Sophia (Glowac) Chatey, she moved to Hampton, CT at age 9 and grew up within the love of that close-knit community. Gail graduated from Windham High School where she was an Honor student and a member of the Choir. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at United Electric and later at the University of Connecticut School of Agriculture.
Gail was an avid UConn basketball fan and enjoyed gardening. Her top passion, however, were her animals, including a long-lived cow named Bambi. From a young age, Gail was an accomplished baker and thought nothing of launching into the late-night creations of delicious treats for her family and friends. And Gail had a beautiful voice. She could be found frequenting the Shaboo Inn and enjoyed visits to the shoreline to have fun with her favorite cousin Bonnie. As a mother and grandmother, Gail supported her children, relishing time at dirt bike races and being involved with her grandchildren and their interests.
Gail is survived by her husband, Richard Satterlee with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. She is also survived by daughter Eliza Satterlee of Willimantic, CT, son Eric Satterlee and his life partner Jenny Farrelly, grandchildren Brianna, Olivia, and Collin of Franklin, CT, and beloved second daughter Jenna Knowles of Steamboat Springs, CO. She is also survived by sister Faith Moran and her husband George of Hampton, CT and Ocala, FL and brother Louis Chatey and his wife Margaret of Ashford, CT, brother-in-law Lonnie Satterlee and his wife Rebecca of Daytona, FL, plus her beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her family and friends will miss her.
A private Celebration of Life for family members will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education, a non-profit organization located in Ashford, CT.
