It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Franz Hoerzer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and dear friend who departed this life peacefully at home on March 7, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born in Harass, Austria on 10/16/1942, Franz was a dedicated, hard working, wise, strong, caring, and compassionate man. He found immense joy in his many hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, stamp collecting, and coin collecting; each a reflection of his inquisitive nature, creativity, breadth of knowledge, and appreciation for history. Franz’s woodwork and carvings crafted so carefully by him through hours of work and dedication, live in the homes of so many. His collection of rare stamps and coins tell stories of times gone by. His gardens continue to bloom, bringing color and beauty to this world, just as he did.
Franz was also a man of community and tradition. He celebrated his heritage and formed lifelong friendships as a proud member of countless German and Austrian societies. Whether sharing a dance, exchanging collectibles, or simply enjoying good company, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and making sure our glasses were full and our hearts warm.
Above all, Franz was a devoted family man. His love, kindness, and stories touched the lives of all who knew him. His family—his greatest pride and joy—will forever hold his wisdom, humor, and unwavering support close to their hearts. He was a man who could fix anything, from a broken crayon to a dark day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Heike Hoerzer; his children, Cindy Dancosse (Paul) and Ramona Hoerzer; his grandchildren, James Sharples (Kim), Samantha Sharples (Marvin), Courtney Dancosse (Steve), Alexandria Hoerzer (Ahntwan), and Gabriella Hoerzer (Marco); his great-grandchildren, Amaré, Anastasia, Ailonnie, Anthony, Bruin, Elliott, and Jaycen; his sister, Rose Flynn; his many nieces and nephews; his beloved cat, Finni; along with a community of dear friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
Franz’s legacy will live on in the stories he shared, the traditions he upheld, and the love he so freely gave. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, in Willimantic, CT where all who knew him are invited to honor his memory and celebrate his life. Followed by a service at the Ukrainian National Home in Willimantic, CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be collecting donations to be dispersed to different charitable causes in remembrance of Franz’s generous spirit.
You will always be in our hearts. Ruhe in Frieden, Franz and save a dance for us. For an online memorial guestbook please visit
