Frank Schiller, age 95 of Mansfield Center, CT passed away peacefully in Sarasota, FL on November 27, 2011. He was born at home in the Bronx, NY on August 15, 1916 to Jacob and Yetta Schiller. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertha Horn Schiller. Frank 's siblings are Ida Friedman, Julius and Lawrence Schiller. Frank is a 1937 graduate of NY University Honors College with a BS degree in Political Science and Philosophy. Frank was recognized in his college days as an insightful commentary writer. After college graduation, he moved during the Great Depression to a cattle farm with his family in Franklin, CT. In December 24, l944 he married Bertha Horn and shortly thereafter opened Schiller's Mart Home Improvement Store in Willimantic. Schiller's Mart closed when Frank retired in 1983. Together Frank and Bertha raised two children, Gene of Brandon, FL and the late Paula Schiller. Frank was active as a Mason and Civitan member for his adult life. He loved music and played violin in classical orchestras and country folk fiddle performances. As a life long learner, he helped establish the life long learning program in Mansfield at UCONN. He embraced rigorous exercise, healthy eating, and sports his whole life. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Schiller. A graveside service will take place on Friday, December 2 at 10:30AM at Temple Bnai Israel Cemetery, at the intersection of Rte. 31 an Rte.32 in Mansfield, CT. There will be no calling hours.
