Frank T. Piecyk Sr., (1917-2011) of Norfolk, VA, formerly of Ashford, CT., died Tuesday August 9, 2011 in Norfolk. He was the son of Victor and Anna (Slovik) Piecyk and a resident of Ashford prior to joining the U.S. Navy in 1934. During World War II he served in the Pacific Campaign and also later served in the Korean War attaining the rank of Warrant Officer. In 1960 he retired from the U.S. Navy. Mr. Piecyk then was employed as Public Works Civilian Foreman, Naval Operations Base Norfolk, VA until retiring in 1980. A true master of all trades he enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and working in his victory garden in his later years. He was the loving husband of Frances Joan (Gianoli) Piecyk who predeceased him. He is survived by his son Frank Jr., grandchildren Jen and Frank "Ted" III. He was the brother of Victor, Stella, Frances, Caroline and Carroll. His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday Aug. 14th between 2:00 and 4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday Aug. 15th at 10:30am at St. Philip The Apostle Church, Rte. 44, Ashford. Interment will follow in St. Philip Cemetery, Ashford.
