Frank J. Konikowski, 87, of Willimantic, husband of Mary (Nacsin) Konikowski, died Wednesday Dec. 15, 2010 at St. Joseph Living Center, Windham. He was born Oct. 6, 1923 in Norwich the son of Joseph and Anna Konikowski. Frank was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving on both the USS Cowpens and the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He had been employed by Electric Boat in Groton for thirty three years prior to his retirement. Frank's passion for sports was great, with many joys and tears for the Red Sox. He was also a devoted fan of all UConn Huskies teams. Frank was a huge polka fan and always enjoyed attending Polkabrations. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Ken and his wife Linda of Tolland and a daughter Karen Nass and her husband Craig of Columbia. He will be missed by his grandchildren who were the love of his life, Kevin of Newton, MA. and Laura of Tolland. He is also survived by two sisters, Sophie Varnish of Uncasville and Anna Cimochowski of Norwich, several nieces and nephews and his Godchild Jane Cichon of Willimantic. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the staff at St. Joseph Living Center for their exceptional compassion and support over the last years of Frank's life. There are no calling hours. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with assembly at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
