Frank J. Brayne, 94, of West Hartford, husband of the late MaryKate (Coffey), whom he married in 1949, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, November 30, 2015. He was born in Quincy, MA, son of the late Frank H. and Julia (Riley) Brayne. He moved to New London, CT at age 4 and later graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1938. He graduated from Becker College in Worcester, MA. Frank and MaryKate made their home in Mansfield Center, CT. He worked as Director of Purchasing at the University of Connecticut for many years retiring in 1985. His working motto was, "If you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life", and he truly enjoyed going to work every single day. Frank returned to New London in 1988 to enjoy his retirement. He loved going out many nights on the town and listening to jazz music as a pastime over dinner with family and friends. Jazz musician and dear friend Pat Mitchell would always play his favorite song, "A Silent Tear". He leaves behind his sister, Mary Sawicki, of Quaker Hill, CT; his granddaughter, Elissa (Edward) Ford, of West Hartford, CT; his grandson, Colin (Ashley) Dunnack, of Columbia, CT; his granddaughter, Kelly Dunnack, of Mansfield Center, CT; his grandson, Kevin Dunnack, of Mansfield Center, CT; two great-grandsons, Malachi Ford and Owen Dunnack and a niece and several nephews. His grandchildren meant the world to him. Frank was predeceased by his daughter, Sheila Brayne, and his son, Kevin Brayne. He is also predeceased by his brother, Robert (Louise) Brayne, and his brother-in-law, Ray Sawicki. The family would like to thank caregivers, Kevin, Bryana, Kateri, and the staff at HHC at Home for their comforting care over the last several months and his friends, Roger Castro and Wayne Chapman. Mr. Brayne's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Friday December 4, 2015 at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
