Frank Bartizek

Frank Bartizek, 94, of Lebanon, husband of Janice (Spellacy) Bartizek, died Thursday March 7, 2002 in Willimantic. He was born December 4, 1907 in Willimantic, the son of Joseph and Mary (Rybarz) Bartizek. He attended Lebanon schools and graduated from Lyman Memorial High School in 1925 and was the oldest graduate of that class still living in Lebanon. He was an avid sports fan throughout his life, playing basketball and baseball in high school and on the "Town Team" for several years after graduating. Mr. Bartizek retired from dairy farming in 1977. Always active in community affairs, Mr. Bartizek was elected to the Lebanon Board of Selectmen in 1938 and served for 19 years followed by 14 years as Chairman of the Board of Education. He was a member and past trustee of the First Baptist Church of Lebanon and a member of several agricultural and soil conservation organizations at both local and state levels. Mr. Bartizek was a charter and life member of the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department, a charter member of the Lebanon Historical Society and was Republican Town Chairman for 35 years. In addition to his wife whom he married on April 7, 1947 he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ann Bartizek, a grandson Brian Bartizek, all of Lebanon, Ohio, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, Joseph, 3 brothers, John, Louis and Albert and 2 sisters, Stella Swan and Rose Michalec. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, P.O. Box 17279, Baltimore, MD 21297.
