Francis E. Ryan, 103, a longtime resident of Storrs, died Saturday Feb. 23, 2008 after a brief illness. He was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y. on Sept. 3, 1904. He was educated at New York University receiving B.S. and M.A. Degrees and received his L.L.B. Degree from Brooklyn Law School. He was a member of the New York Bar and was also a Certified Public Accountant in New York state. He joined the faculty at University of Connecticut School of Business in 1949 and retired in 1970. For many years, he was also active in civic and political affairs in the town of Mansfield. He also acted as a trustee of the Storrs Cemetery Association for twenty five years. His is survived by his wife of 73 years, Blanca (Berger) of Storrs formerly of Sands Point, L.I., N.Y., a daughter Jean C. Alfano and her husband Dr. Bart Alfano of Dover, MA., and a grandson Michael B. Alfano of Boston. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am in Storrs Cemetery, North Eagleville Rd., Storrs.
