COLUMBIA/WILLIMANTIC: Francis "Frank" J. Magliocco, age 89, beloved husband for 62 years of Pauline Hurteau Magliocco, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Windham Hospital, following a long illness. He was born February 27, 1923 in Willimantic, CT, the eldest son of the late Pasquale Francesco Magliocco and Marianna Russo Magliocco. He graduated from Windham High School, Class of 1942. He was a decorated veteran of World War II having served in the major campaigns of the Pacific as a member of Marine Fighter Squadron VMF-323, Third Marine Air Wing, United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a supernumerary police officer in Willimantic and worked in the automotive field as parts and service manager until his retirement. He was a life member of the Willimantic Elks and Guiseppe Garibaldi Lodge, Order of the Sons of Italy as well as the Willimantic Country Club. He enjoyed classical music, opera, Italian cuisine and a good laugh as well as hunting, fishing and golf, which he took up with great passion after his retirement. He was a master mechanic and craftsman who could build or fix anything. He was perpetually cheerful, fond of telling humorous anecdotes and stories about the past and was a kind and generous man to family, friends and strangers alike. He was most proud of his ethnic heritage and service to his country. His happiest times were those spent with his family and he took special pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow up and to whom he lovingly imparted his wise counsel and guidance. He was blessed with a full life, and more importantly, a good life. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant sister Concetta, his sister Antoinette M. Clark and her husband Ralph, his sister Lucy M. Ferris and her husband Charles, his brother Anthony J. Magliocco and his wife Joanne, and special nephews Richard G. Beaulieu and Mark Magliocco. In addition to his wife Pauline, he leaves to mourn his passing his son, Michael C. Magliocco and his wife Carol of Columbia, CT and grandchildren Cara C. Magliocco of Austin, TX, Ariana Hadiaris and her husband J.D. of Saco, ME and Nicolas M. Magliocco of Crested Butte, CO; his daughter Paula C. Oberg and her husband Harold of Norwich, CT and grandchildren Lucas M. Cussen and his wife Allyson of Monroe, CT, Erin Cussen of Windham, CT, Brett F. Olhson of Willimantic, CT, Jessica R. Oberg of New London, CT and Deborah E. Oberg of Anthony, FL. He also leaves eight great- grandchildren, Ariel, Taylor, Sofia, Connor and Declan Cussen, and Zoe, Logan and Layla Olhson as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
