Francis J. Bilts, 67, of Windham, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 15, 2010. He was born in Hartford on October 6, 1942, the son of the late Alexander and Mary Bilts. He grew up and attended schools in Willimantic. He joined the Army in 1967 and served until 1970. Upon returning from the Army, he went to work at Brand Rex, retiring in 2004, at the age of 62. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed fishing for the sport of it and also enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and flower beds and caring for his cats. He will be remembered for his quick smile and his thoughtful ways. He is survived by his brothers, Theodore Bilts of Torrington and John Bilts of Windham, a sister, Jeanne Tucker of Columbia, two nieces and their husbands Mary and Arthur Wadhams of Torrington and Cynthia and Michael Doyle of Oakdale, two great nephews, Matthew Bilts and his wife Kendall of Canton and Tucker Doyle of Oakdale and a great great nephew, Zachary Bilts of Canton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James Bilts. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
