Frances A. (Kaminski) Giordano, 87, of Brooklyn, formerly of Columbia, wife of the late Charles Giordano, died Saturday Aug. 7, 2010 at home. She was born in Chester, PA. the daughter of the late Andrew and Rose Kaminski. Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943, she worked at Baldwin Locomotive Co. in Philadelphia as a trainee in drafting in the engineering dept. Frances trained at Hunters College in New York and Norman, Oklahoma and then was assigned to the U.S. Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA. as an illustrator/draftsman in the engineering dept. She served honorably attaining the rank of Specialist (X) 2nd class. Here Frances met her husband Charles and married in 1945. After being discharged from service, they settled in Willimantic and Columbia where they raised three sons, Joseph, Mark and Alan. She was a volunteer for Little League, school outings and church functions. Frances also worked for Electro-Motive Manufacturing Co. in Willimantic as a payroll clerk and draftsman in the engineering dept. She also worked for the University of CT. Athletic Dept. as a clerk and secretary. Frances and Charles summered at Green Hill, R.I. beginning in 1965 and made it their permanent home upon his retirement in 1979. They spent many happy years there until Charles passed away in 1995. Frances was an avid bridge player, golfer and artist. Her family was her life to the end. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Giordano and his wife Kathleen Scandura, Mark Giordano and his girlfriend Alice Gaudiello and Alan Giordano and his wife Nita; three grandchildren, Erika and Gary Giordano and Rosalie Giordano Oliver; and a great granddaughter Yasmeen. She was predeceased by six brothers, John, Joseph, Walter, Stanley, Frank and August; and three sisters, Kate Amheirn, Mary Coonon and Ann Piziak. There are no calling hours . Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Valley St. Willimantic, with assembly at the church.
