Florice Elizabeth (Cates, Leary) Church, age 88, of Windham, CT, passed into everlasting life on June 9, 2024. Florice was born on March 24, 1936, in Yarmouth, Maine. She preferred to be called Liz. She married Clayton Church in 1957 and together they lived in Coventry most of their lives, where they frequently enjoyed picnics at Coventry Lake.

Liz worked in the Coventry school lunch program, then for the State of Connecticut and the Wetherell Street Group Home, where she learned sign language. She was always a conscientious and hard worker. Liz was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening, crafting, and doing projects around the house; as well as using her computer for e-mails, games, and making greeting cards for family, friends, and neighbors. She was a devout Christian and regularly attended worship services and Bible studies.

Liz is survived by her children, Deborah “Debbie” Kissane and her husband John, Angela Potterton and her husband Robert, Clayton “Clay” Church Jr. and his wife Jacqueline, and Linda Richardson and her husband Brian; grandchildren John, Ryan and his wife Jasmin, Patrick, James and his wife Lisa, Sean, Jack, Liam, Kathleen, and Molly Kissane, Robert III and his wife Carissa, and Erica Potterton, and Jennifer and Jayla Church. Also left behind are her great grandchildren Erin, Brendan, Emma, Ronan, and Saoirse Kissane, Mia White, Adam and Kimberly Potterton; her sister-in-law Joyce Church, many nieces and nephews, and her longtime friend Margaret Perez. Liz was predeceased by her husband Clayt of 65 years, their son Eric, sisters-in-law Isabelle Marinelli and Dorothy Randall, and brothers-in-law Clinton, Clifton, and Correy Church, and her grandson Brendan Kissane.

There are no calling hours.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 239 Graham Road, South Windsor, CT.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church to benefit the Bridge Food Pantry or to Birthright of Windham, 122 Valley St., Willimantic, CT 06226.
