Fernande "Red" (Daigle) Martel, 81, of Willimantic, passed away on June 7, 2004 at the Haven Health Center of Windham. She was born in Quebec, Canada on Sept. 13, 1922 the daughter of Wilfred and Ludivene (Gagnon) Daigle. She married Paul E. Martel on Oct. 4, 1941 and together they had 4 daughters. He predeceased her in 1968. Fern had been employed by Fisher's Big Wheel for many years until her retirement in 1992. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching her grandson and his friends on the CT Force play basketball. She is survived by her 4 daughters, Deborah Kilgus and her husband Lawrence of Willimantic and their 2 children Stacey and Stephen; Claire Lewandowski and her husband George of Columbia and their 3 children Julie, Daniel and Brandy; Susan Clermont of Willimantic and her2 children Jeffrey and Kellie; and Pauline Kramer and her husband Ronald of N. Windham and their 3 children Douglas, Heidi and Lee. She is also survived by her brother Andrew of Florida, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her second husband Frank Poplasky. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30am prior to her 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic.
