Felipe Rivera Jr. Obituary
Felipe Rivera, Jr., 61, a cherished son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, left this world unexpectedly on May 1, 2024, at his home in Hampton, CT. He was born on March 29, 1963, in Willimantic, CT, the first child of Beverly (Fitts) and Felipe Rivera, Sr.
Music was the essence of Felipe's soul. He expressed himself through the strings of his guitar, his voice, and original songs that resonated with honesty and emotion. His passion for music extended beyond creation to collection; he treasured music memorabilia, including vinyl records, posters, CDs, and autographs. He liked to go to concerts and hear live music, often recalling his younger days when he played in a band. Beyond his musical pursuits, Felipe was an avid collector with a keen interest in religious and spiritual keepsakes, books, and movies. He kept a treasure trove of carefully curated items, each with its own story and significance. He was also an enthusiastic reader, often visiting the library to discover new books that could transport him to different worlds.
Sports brought excitement and joy to his life. He was an enthusiastic wrestling and baseball fan, with WWE events being a particular favorite. Watching the matches with his mom, both animatedly yelling at the TV, was a precious ritual. His love for her was particularly evident over the last few months with the attentive care he provided to her after she became clumsy and had an unfortunate fall. Felipe enjoyed playing cards with his mom and aunt, where they often playfully accused each other of cheating if they were not winning. He had a funny sense of humor, thoughtful nature, and creative mind. His family, especially his parents, who considered him not just a son but their best friend, will miss his companionship and the joy he brought into their lives.
Besides his parents, he is also survived by his beloved siblings Sherry Bissonnette (Derek) of Plainfield, CT; Lisa Sawicki (Travis East) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Lionel Rivera (Nancy) of Summerville, SC; Aunt Jeanette Duchesneau of North Windham, CT; nieces Deanna Bissonnette and Olivia Rivera, and nephew Justin Bissonnette. He and Olivia shared their love of tattoos, concerts, and music. Felipe was predeceased by his grandmothers Eleanor Fitts and Julia Rivera, and his best friend, Lisa Levesque. Felipe's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His ability to find beauty in the simple things, to create art that spoke to the soul, and to show unwavering love and support to his parents will be remembered and celebrated. Through his music, his laughter, and his love, his presence will always be felt. Rest in peace, Felipe. Your melody will play on in the hearts of all who loved you.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
