F. Belle Robinson Obituary
Belle Robinson passed away June 4, 2024 at home surrounded by family in Columbia, CT. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Lucius W. Robinson, Jr. and her oldest son, James Robinson, both of Columbia, CT. She is survived by her sons Richard Robinson (Bobby), Carmichael, CA., Douglas Robinson (Denis), Columbia, CT., and her daughter Lynn Schoppaul (Mark), York Springs, PA and daughter-in-law Carol Robinson, of Columbia, CT. She is also survived by a niece and nephew, five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and one great niece.
She was born in West Virginia and the family moved to Columbia, CT, when she was in 4th grade. She graduated from 8th grade at the Center School one room school house now known as the Moors Indian Charity School near the Columbia town hall. Her family moved to Cortland, NY where she graduated from Cortland High School. She worked for the FBI first as a clerk and then as a radio operator in various monitoring stations around the country from 1941 until her marriage to Lucius W. Robinson, Jr. of Columbia in 1945. She was a resident of Columbia for over 80 years and lived in the home she and her husband had built for nearly 70 years until her death.
She was active in the community, a charter member of the Columbia Canoe Club, a Girl Scout leader for eight years then an adult trainer for a number of years after. She was very active in the Columbia Congregational Church serving in various capacities over the decades. She was a member of the Columbia Historical Society for many years including being president during the renovation of the Moors Indian Charity School. She was also a member of the Hebron (Hebron-Columbia) Daylighters Quilt Group until its dissolution to name a few.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling the eastern part of the US and Canada in their truck camper. They also traveled to Hawaii and the Philippines before his final illness. She later traveled to Elder Hostel (now Road Scholars) programs, traveling to all 48 of the contiguous United States, and visited Alaska as well. She traveled to England, Scotland, several European countries and Australia, to name a few, with friends and fellow quilters.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at the Columbia Congregational Church on August 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM and burial at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Hebron, CT.
