Evans Contos

Evans Contos, 67, of Willimantic and Amston, CT passed away on August 05, 2017, surrounded by loving members of his family and group home caretakers. Evans was born on April 17, 1950, the beloved son of Harry and Irene (Demetrion) Contos. He was educated in the Windham Public School system and was a proud member of the first Special Education class offered by the town. He loved music, especially Elvis Presley, Bobby Darrin and the Beetles. He was an avid bowler and participated in the CT Special Olympic Games for many years. He was always proud of the trophies he won. Evans also was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching their games with his Dad. Evans especially loved his family. He was always happy attending cook-outs, birthday celebrations and holiday gatherings. His sense of humor and infectious laugh would always light up the room. He is survived by his sister and guardian, Anne Willette and her husband Larry of Tolland, CT; his brother, Christopher Contos and his wife MaryAnn of Franklin, CT; his niece Katie Willette, his nephew Nicholas Willette; his nieces Jennifer Spellman and her husband Randy and Kathryn DiGarbo and her husband Joe; great nieces Melina and Eva DiGarbo and great nephews Ryan and Luke Spellman. Evans was predeceased by his parents and his brother John Peter Contos. He was blessed to live most of his life with his Father, Harry. After the passing of his Dad, Evans was again blessed to be able to continue living in Willimantic under the loving care of Lyn and Peter Poulos. It was there he met his dear friends Stephen and Andrew. The Willette and Contos families sincerely thank the many professional staff members of his group home located on Northam Road in Amston, CT, who lovingly cared for Evans for many years. Their dedicated compassion and love for him will never be forgotten. The family will receive relatives and friends, 10:00 am Thursday August 10, 2017 at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church 414 Valley St. Willimantic, CT 06226 with a Funeral Mass to start at 11:00 am and a burial to follow at the New Willimantic Cemetery.
