Eugene R. Ducharme, 84, of Willimantic, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born on August 14, 1941, in Willimantic, Gene was the beloved son of the late Rudolph and Lucienne (Rondeau) Ducharme. He graduated from Windham Technical High School in 1959 and began his career as a mechanic at Joe Bousa's Garage in North Windham. In 1963, he entered the apprentice program at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, where he built a successful career as a tool and die maker. A meticulous and highly skilled craftsman, Gene took great pride in his work and carried that same attention to detail into his many hobbies, including woodworking and fly tying.

Gene retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1998, allowing him to spend more time traveling with his beloved wife, the late Gail (Gerardi) Ducharme. Together, they enjoyed many happy years dividing their time between their homes in Connecticut and North Port, Florida. He also enjoyed golfing with friends and learned the art of fly fishing alongside his brother, Tom.

Fishing became one of Gene's greatest passions. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy not only in being on the water but also in sharing his love of fishing with others—especially his grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments were spent teaching them to fish, swapping stories, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Above all else, Gene was devoted to his family. He cherished every moment with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, taking immense pride in watching his family grow. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Gene was also a devoted Christian whose steadfast faith guided his life, and he faithfully shared his love of the Lord with family and friends.

Gene is survived by his children, Janet (Tom) Luberto, Alan (Alicia) Ducharme, and Kelly (Brett) DeMarchi; his cherished grandchildren, Mitchell (Dana) Ducharme, Matthew (Jessica) Ducharme, Nicholas Luberto, Rebecca (Brent) Laquitara, and Lindsey DeMarchi; and seven beloved great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard Ducharme of Jacksonville, Florida, and Thomas (Paula) Ducharme of York, Pennsylvania; and his sister, Lucille (Theodore) Hill of Eastford, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda, and his sister, Denise Pelkey.

Those who knew Gene will remember him for his compassion, kindness, generosity, and unwavering friendship. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His love for his family, his faith, and the simple joys of life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

For the last three years of his life, Gene was a resident of The Card Home on Pleasant Street in Willimantic, where he formed many meaningful friendships with both the staff and his fellow residents. His family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care, kindness, and companionship they provided.

A burial service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Club Road, North Windham, Connecticut.
