Eugene Bergeron Jr. Obituary
Eugene Joseph Bergeron, Jr., known affectionately to all as “Gene” or "Papa", passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 81, having completed an extraordinary tour of life that began on August 31, 1943, in the town of Willimantic, Connecticut. Gene was a man who crafted not just magical winter wonderlands, fairy birdhouses, and furniture but laughter and memories that will outlast any woodwork.

Gene's life was a masterclass in love, humor, and ingenuity, a legacy that began at Windham Technical High School where he honed his skills in carpentry. He was the kind of guy who could look at a pile of wood and see the potential for beauty and function, a trait that served him well as the proud owner of G&L Camper Repair and Christmas Barn, as a Kitchen Designer for Windham Lumber, and as a Vocational Instructor at Mansfield Training School. Gene's hands were rarely still, and neither was his wit.

In the community, Gene was as sturdy and dependable as the structures he built. He served as Past President of the Franco American Civic and Social Club and the Indianfield Cooperative Campground, where he also indulged in his love for camping. Gene's dedication to service was further evident as he held the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain within the Eagleville and Windham Center Fire Departments, respectively. He was also a member of the Willimantic Elks Lodge 1311 and Windham Knights of Columbus.

Gene's life was one marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian Bergeron, with whom he shared 63 years of countless cherished moments. Gene's legacy continues through his children, Lorrie (David) Reid, Thomas (Nancy) Bergeron, and William (Liz) Bergeron, sister Nancy (Gary) White and daughter-in-law Laurie Bergeron who will forever hold dear the lessons and love he imparted. His grandchildren, Ryan, Chelsey, Wyatt (Bobbi-Jo), Katherine (Brandon), Michael and great grandchildren, Talon, Aubri, Cherri, Levi and Nixon, will miss their "Papa" deeply, along with Stephen, Shawn (Michelle) and Katelyn White and his many nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Norma (Wylie) Bergeron, and his brother, Jerry Bergeron, who have no doubt welcomed him with open arms and a heavenly game of cribbage.

Gene will be carried in the hearts of his friends and family and everyone who knew him.
