Ethel Records Obituary
Ethel Dale Records, 83, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023, at her home in Columbia, CT.  Born in Hope, RI, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (Isaacs) Dale.  Ethel attended the University of Bridgeport, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education.  During her lifetime, she worked in numerous capacities. Ethel successfully managed Fruit Hill Farms Orchard, in Windham Center, for twenty years. She worked in education in Norwich, Montville, and other towns in CT. She tried her hand at organic farming in Vermont, worked in a Lodge in Denali Park, Alaska, and even ran a Christmas Tree Farm in Lebanon, CT. Being raised with a strong work ethic, she always put her heart and soul into everything she did.

Ethel had been the organist at Scotland Congregational Church for many years. She played at the worship service the morning before her passing. Playing the organ gave her great joy!  Ethel enjoyed a variety of pastimes.  Swimming (Watch Hill and Columbia Lake) was one of her favorites. She loved the sense of freedom she felt when she dove into the water.  An avid gardener, Ethel looked forward to Spring and Summer, so that she could get her hands in the soil, nurturing her vegetables and flowers.  She loved growing blueberries and was always willing to share them with friends and family.

Ethel had boundless energy.  In past years, she hiked with the Appalachian Mountain Club and participated in contra dances. She had also been a member of the Finnish Club in Canterbury. Ethel visited yard sales often.  She enjoyed “the thrill of the hunt,” for a good bargain.  Ethel could often be found cooking and baking, in her kitchen, constantly trying out new recipes. She especially enjoyed entertaining large groups of family and friends.  Her adventurous spirit and zest for life will be missed by many. Ethel is survived by her five sons, who were her pride and joy Preston (Carol) Records of Brooklyn, Dale (Wanda) Records of Columbia, Jon (Linda) Records of Bozrah, Harry (Erica) Records of Loveland, CO, and Luther (Jolie) Records of Newington; five grandchildren, Dan (Liv) Records of Salem, Cheryl (Dan) Fritzell of Salem, Gabe Records of Newport, NC, Max and Ben Records of Loveland, CO. Five great grandchildren, Colin, Lucas, Tanner, and infant twins, Sawyer and Blais Records. Ethel is also survived by her loyal companion, Harper the dog, her brother, Thurston Dale of Oneida, NY and her former husband, David Records, of Frisco, TX.  Ethel was predeceased by her siblings Toby, Frank, William, and Marium.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Worship Service, in remembrance of Ethel, at the Scotland Congregational Church, 4 Huntington Road, Scotland, CT, on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 10:00am.  Donations may be made to the: Scotland Congregational Church, P.O. Box 148, Scotland, CT 06264.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
