Ethel Kittel

Ethel M. Kittel Ethel M. (Andrychowski) Kittel, 91, of Windham Center, went on ahead on Sunday, February 8, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born in Willimantic, CT on December 15th, 1917 to the late Walter and Tekla (Kwasniewska) Andrychowski and had lived in Windham all of her 91 years. Ethel trained as a nurse in New York City and graduated from Bellevue Hospital in 1939 and then graduated with her Masters degree from New York University. She was employed as a school nurse on Long Island for a few years before returning to Windham. She married the late Edwin Kittel on June 26th, 1943 at the church she was a lifelong member of, St.Joseph in Willimantic. Ethel could always be found tending her wonderful garden. She shared her love of iris and bird watching with her friends and family alike. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother; she leaves a daughter, Kathleen Avery of Lisbon CT, a granddaughter, Kristin Comeau, of Vermont. They would like to express gratitude to all of those who made it possible for Ethel to remain in her home throughout her life; Melanie, Linda, Michelle, Denise, Judy and Jennifer. A brother John Andrychowski of Columbia, CT, sister in law Helen Andrychowski and sister in law Sophia Andrychowski of Windham Center survive her as well as many caring friends and relatives. In addition to her parents and husband, her brothers, Raymond, Joseph, Stanley and Emil and sisters, Eugenia and Casmera, predeceased Ethel. Her family will receive friends on Thursday Feb. 12th between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. The funeral will assemble at the funeral home on Friday Feb. 13th at 9:15 am prior to her 10:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT. 06226 or the charity of your choosing.
