Ethel Arlyne (Crickmore) Cargo Harris, 92, of Coventry, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at her home. She was the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Colman) Crickmore of Coventry and had resided in Coventry all her life. She was predeceased by two husbands, Walter Cargo and Stanley Harris. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children; Gail Manley and her husband Calvin of Windham, Barbara Jean Sang of South Portland, ME and daughter-in-law, Ramona Cargo of Willimantic. She was predeceased by her son, David Cargo. Ethel is also survived by her stepdaughters, Penny Harris of Baltic and Sandra Rose of Lebanon, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Elizabeth Plesz of Windham, Herbert Crickmore of Coventry, Alice Krest of Maryland, Faye Lee and Judith Munson, both of Florida and Eunice Polaro of Windham, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, David, Leonard and Marvin and four sisters, Helen, Gladys, Edith and Doris. Her life was filled with countless hours of volunteerism. Many town and community organizations benefitted from her energy and dedication. She was proud to have donated over 20 gallons of blood during Red Cross Bloodmobile drives. She was a founding member of Coventry Grange #75 and served it in many capacities. Ethel was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Coventry, serving her church and community in many ways. She was a member of the Friendly Circle, the Choir and countless committees. In addition, Ethel could always be found at the monthly Koffee Klatch luncheons and the Thrift and Gift Shop. The 4-H program also benefitted from her involvement. In 2002 Ethel was awarded the John E. Peck Award from the Eastern Connecticut Area Agency on Ageing. Without the dedication of people like Ethel, the community support programs and services may not have reached their fullest potential. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Coventry, 1171 Main St. on May 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private in the Nathan Hale Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Coventry or the Coventry Grange #75.
