Ethel Fontaine

Ethel (Chalifoux) Fontaine, 86, of Taftville, passed away at St. Joseph Living Center, Windham, on Monday May 6, 2013, with her loving husband Armand Fontaine by her side. She was born on Dec. 17, 1926 to the late Wilfred and Emily (Kollar) Chalifoux. Armand and Ethel were united in marriage on April 21, 1979 at St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. Ethel was the second of nine children and worked many years to help her mother support her younger siblings. She worked at Electro-Motive Manufacturing Co. in Willimantic and also at University of Connecticut as an administrative assistant to the dean of the School of Nursing, retiring in 1977 after 32 years of service. In addition to her husband, she leaves her stepson Spencer Fontaine and his wife Carole, grandson Gregory Hawkey, sisters, Nancy Godere and her husband Thomas, Evelyn Dzialo and her husband Joe; a brother Robert Chalifoux and his wife Sandy, brother in law Leo Fontaine and his wife Evelyn, sister in law Doris Breen and her husband Edward and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by step daughter Priscilla Hawkey, three brothers, Richard, Wilfred and Francis Chalifoux, two sisters, Rose Marie Clarke and May Porter, brother in law Eugene Fontaine, sisters in law Florence Fontaine and Claire Fontaine. The family would like to thank Dr. Barry and all the staff at St. Joseph Living Center for the good care and attention given Ethel during her long illness. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday May 10, 2013 between 10:00 and 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic prior to a funeral service beginning at 11:00am. Interment will then follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Rd. Windham, Ct. 06280.
