Ethel Shippey Obituary
Ethel Patricia Shippey, 93, formerly of Stockbridge, MA, and Somers, CT passed away on December 12, 2024. She was born in Holyoke, MA and was the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Deacon. Ethel graduated from Holyoke High School in 1949, and from Holyoke School of Nursing in 1952. She worked as a Registered Nurse for the late Norman Epstein, MD in Springfield, MA, for 35 years. While residing in Somers, CT, Ethel was a member of the Conservation Commission and the Beautification Committee. As a resident of Stockbridge, MA, she was a member of the Stockbridge Festival Chorus, Beachwood Lenstock Association, and the Stockbridge Bowl Association. Music and the theater were a big part of her life, and she enjoyed many performances at Tanglewood, Symphony Hall, Jacob’s Pillow and UCONN’s Jorgensen Center. Ethel was a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Ethel married the late George E. Shippey in 1970 and had 51 years of marriage. She leaves behind her sons Scott Shippey and Glenn Shippey; daughter Kymberly Parent and husband Michael; grandchildren Sydney Cuccaro, Mariah Shippey, Elena Shippey, and Joshua Parent along with nieces Robin Tierney and Patricia Schmitter; nephews Jeffrey Sefton and Mark Sefton. Ethel was predeceased by her sisters Esther Dubilo and Ruth Sefton, and nephews Russell Sefton and Stephen Dubilo.
The memorial service will be held in Stockbridge, MA in May of 2025. The family would like to thank the staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehab in Storrs Mansfield, CT, for all their love and care they provided to Ethel.
