Ester M. Kask, 93, of Willimantic, was born in Tallinn, Estonia May 1st 1919, and passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 8th 2013. She spent her formative years in Tallinn, Estonia during its years of freedom between wars, daughter of Juhan Riipere and Malle Aav. She fled Estonia with her sister during World War II to Germany, where she met her husband, Eugen Kask. She left post-war Europe with her husband and young son Toivo in 1950 and settled in Willimantic, Connecticut where she would spend the rest of her life. Her interests included handicrafts, gardening, and raising her family. She was proud of her fifteen years as leader of Vikerlased; the Estonian Cub Scouts. In later years travel to Europe and summers in her cabin at Center Pond, Maine, brought her pleasure and fulfillment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugen Kask and her only sister Aita. She is survived by her daughter Virge Kask, of Vernon, Connecticut and her two sons; Toivo Kask, his wife Lynn, of Monterey California, and their daughter Kara Kask of Los Angeles, California, and Val Kask and his wife Patricia Faiman, of Northridge, California. Also surviving Ester are her niece Dace Kalnins and her nephew Andy Kalnins both of Stuttgart, Germany. Her joy for life was an inspiration and comfort to all who knew her. Funeral services will be held Friday April 12th, 2013 at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic at 11:00am with her family receiving friends beginning at 10:30am.
