Ernest J. Brisson, age 92 and Bernadette (Dubois) Brisson, age 88, of Mansfield Center passed away at their home of natural causes on Saturday, May 10, 2014 after 68 years of marriage. Ernie was born in Lebanon, CT. He was the son of Ferdinand and Marie (Gladue) Brisson. He was a veteran of WWII and served on the submarine, USS Macabi. Ernie retired from the Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut. He was an avid gardener. Bernie was born in Willimantic, CT. She was the daughter of Ernest and Dianna (Guilbault) Dubois. She drove school buses for the Mansfield School District. She enjoyed socializing with people. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and bird watching. Ernie and Bernie were devoted to each other and traveled to many parts of the world together. They wintered in Florida for many years and were active in the Windham Whirlers Square Dance Club. They are survived by their daughters: Nancy Brisson Hand and her husband Ted of Littleton, CO, Karen Brisson DelMastro and her husband Bruce of Lebanon, CT and their son Jerry Brisson of Pomfret, CT; 7 grandchildren: Ted Hand III, Cindy Hand, Stephen Hand, Kristy DelMastro Motes, Michael DelMastro, Chelsea Brisson and Alicia Brisson and 4 great grandchildren: Addie Hand, Teddy Hand IV, Charlotte Hand and Erica Motes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie is survived by his brothers Armand of Lebanon, CT and Eugene and his wife Clara of Lebanon, CT. He was predeceased by his sisters Connie Hobby and Anna Crotty and his brother Albert. Bernie is survived by her sister Gert Lavallee of Preston, CT and her brother Roland Dubois and his wife Maggie of Windham, CT. She was preceded in death by her sisters Rita Harrington, Therese Sadlon and her brother Ted Dubois. Their family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday May 15, 2014 between 5:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Their Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday the 16th at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with Rev. Roger Lamoureux officiating. Please assemble in the church parking area at 9:45am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org or the American Heart Association www.heart.org .
