Erminia D. Lowman, 88, of Columbia, peacefully passed away after a brief illness at The Spokane Hospice House, Spokane, Washington. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Erminia has gone home to be with her best friend and beloved husband, Frederick A. Lowman. Erminia was born on January 8, 1923 in Montesover, Northern Italy to the late Giuseppe and Faustina (Battisti) Dallavalle. She immigrated to America in 1928 and spent most of her life in Storrs and Columbia. She attended public schools in Storrs and Willimantic and was a communicant of St. Columba's Church of Columbia. Erminia was the Tax Collector in Columbia for many decades and was known and liked by all whose lives she touched. Erminia is survived by her beloved children, Fred Lowman of Barkhamsted, CT, Carol Roscoe and her husband Larry of Spokane, Washington, and Janice Wilson and her husband, Earl, of Lakewood, CO. She was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Kathleen Lowman. She is survived by three grandchildren, Brett Lowman and his wife Kristin of East Granby, CT., Jarett Lowman and his wife Kacey Young of Purcellville, VA., and Travis Lowman of New Hartford, CT. ; three great grandchildren, Beckett Thomas Lowman of East Granby, Drew Katherine and Ellie Marie Lowman of Purcellville, VA. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Murphy, of Taftville, CT and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Quirino Francis Dallavalle of Maryland. Erminia was very active in many organizations in the town of Columbia. She volunteered and was a blood donor for the American Red Cross, a Cub Scout leader, a Brownie leader, a member of the Columbia PTA and Republican Town Committee. She was a gifted oil painter and talented seamstress, but probably most remembered for her kitchen talents and homemade blueberry buckle. In her later years she became very involved with quilting, a hobby she shared with her daughter, Carol. Calling hours will be Friday April 1 from 2:00 to 4:00pm. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic.
