Erika Kalnins, 93, of Willimantic, wife of the late Ansis Kalnins, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 in Windham. She was born November 16, 1911 in Latvia, the daughter of Marcis and Natalija Broze and had lived in the United States since 1949. She was an active member of the Latvian Lutheran Church in Willimantic since its founding and for many years participated in the Latvian chorus group Rota . Prior to her retirement she was employed at the former American Thread Co. in Willimantic. Mrs. Kalnins was an accomplished seamstress and known for her Latvian needlepoint. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her trips out west to visit her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ilze and Richard Avery of San Clemente, CA, a granddaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Joe English of La Cresenta, CA and a great granddaughter, Kaylynn Erika English. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Monday from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery.
