Emma Joyce Mitchell

Emma Joyce Mitchell, 58, of Willimantic, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, January 14th, 2019 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born August 1st 1960 in Arcola Mississippi, the daughter of Marvin Mitchell and Ruby Mitchell (Stigler). Emma relocated to Willimantic as a little girl with her parents and siblings in 1972. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Willimantic CT, where she found joy in working and serving the Lord. She was a member of the Usher board, Calvary Baptist Holy Ghost Anointed Evangelical Ministering Choir and the Young Adult Choir. Sister Emma worked for Eastern Connecticut State University for approximately 16 years. Emma was a loving and devoted, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend. She is survived by her father Marvin Mitchell Jr., her four kids, Francesca Porter-Mitchell, Darrell Highsmith, Denzel Mitchell, Davionne Mitchell, and granddaughter Lexhani Ruby Highsmith. Siblings, Mary (Robert) Spruell, Marvin (Brianna) Mitchell, Georgia Mitchell and Doris Mitchell and God Brother John Whitehead. Emma was predeceased by her mother Ruby MItchell and sister Clara Bell Williams. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted church family and friends.
