Elsie Marco, 95, of Willington, died Sunday May 23, 2004 at Rockville General Hospital. She was born June 27, 1908 in New York City, the daughter of William and Anna (Washenko) Marco and moved to Willington in 1917. She attended the one room schoolhouse in Daleville where her teacher, Mrs. Mann instilled in her the importance of education, a value she kept and shared throughout her life. She graduated from William Hall High School in West Hartford, received her degree in Home Economics from UConn and her Master's Degree from Cornell University. During World War II she taught sewing at the G. Fox building in Hartford. She taught high school in Windham, Hartford, Seymour and also in Oregon and New York State. Elsie used her summers to further her education at various universities. She also sold and promoted the World Book Encyclopedia. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and all over the world and in 1975 traveled with her mother to Poland to visit relatives there. Elsie was a beloved and generous person to all who knew her. She is survived by 2 brothers, Michael Marco and his wife Jean of Andover, Nicholas Marco and his wife Harriet of Willington, a sister, Helen Sadow and her husband Nicholas of Storrs, a sister-in-law, Mildred Marco of Willington, her godson Alfred Sadow of Willington, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Mary Marco, Eva Pratt and a brother, George Marco. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Rte. 195, Willimantic. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery, Willimantic.
