Ellen M. Cook

Ellen Marie (Healy) Cook, 102, passed peacefully on December 4, 2014. The wife of the late Alfred R. Cook, Ellen was the daughter of Mary (Sullivan) and Jeremiah C. Healy. She grew up in South Windham, graduated from Windham High School and the Joseph Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing class of 1934. Her nursing career began there and took her to Windham Community Memorial Hospital, Pratt and Whitney Co., the Mayo Clinic and various area convalescent homes. She was a life-long communicant of St. Joseph Church and is the last survivor of her family generation. She was predeceased by her sister Marion Ryan and brothers Raymond and Christopher and spouses. Her survivors include four nieces: Mary R. Dumais of Windsor, Betty R. Seymour of Ohio and spouses, Mary H. Freed of AZ, Ellen H. Lucas of Norwalk. She is also survived by a sister -in- law, Barbara Cook and family of Niantic and MD. Among additional survivors are 14 grand nieces and nephews and 26 great grand nieces and nephews each of whom she knew and loved. She enjoyed gardening, her seashore cottage at Latimer Pt. and her Airedale dogs, and the UCONN Women's Basketball games and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Calling hours will be held at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte.195) Willimantic, CT on Wednesday, December 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Windham. Memorial donations may be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org .
