Ellen A. Bartram of Mansfield Center died at Windham Hospital on September 27, 2009. She was born in Prestwick, Scotland on October 15, 1926, emigrated in 1949 and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1957. She is survived by a sister, Mary Smoot of Knoxville, Tennessee; a brother, Robert Devlin of Sunderland, England; a daughter, Ellen Colburn of Storrs; a son, Robert Bartram of Enfield and four adult grandchildren: Christopher Colburn of Willimantic; Margaret Colburn of Los Angeles, California; Cameron Colburn of Lebanon, New Hampshire and Jessie Bartram of Manchester. She is also survived by her husband of nearly fifty-six years, UConn Physics Professor Emeritus Ralph Bartram. She enjoyed traveling extensively while living abroad during sabbatical leaves, while accompanying her husband at international conferences and collaborations, while sailing on cruise ships and while exploring exotic destinations. Her travels included several trips to Scotland with her sister Mary to visit relatives and to see more of Great Britain. She also enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Willimantic Country Club for twenty years. In recent years she divided her time between Mansfield Center, CT and her winter home in North Fort Myers, FL. She was a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, and will be sorely missed by her extended family. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
