Elizabeth Palmer

September 1, 1918 — January 8, 2008

Elizabeth Davis (Slye) Palmer of Willimantic, formerly of Granby, a published poet, entered into eternal life on Jan. 8, 2008 at St. Joseph Living Center, Windham. She was the beloved wife of Wilson H. Palmer of Granby who predeceased her in 1979. She was also predeceased by two brothers Wilbur Cross Slye of Springfield, MA. and Richard H. Slye of Stafford Springs. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Margaret Colavecchio of Canton, two sons, Norman W. Palmer of Portland, OR. and Lawrence H. Palmer of San Diego, CA.; her daughter in law Donna Palmer of Manchester and her sister Shirley Slye with whom she resided since 1984 at the Willimantic Camp Meeting Association. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Donald and Gregg Palmer of Manchester, Jonathan Palmer of Cambridge, MA., Daniel Colavecchio of Colchester, David Palmer of WA., Karen Bisset of Avon and Gina Lindsley of WA. and seven great grandchildren. Born Sept. 1, 1918, daughter of Herbert R. Slye and Roxana Wilbur Slye, she resided in Stafford Springs until her marriage in 1936. She was an active member of North Granby United Church of Christ and a member of the Granby Grange for over seventy years. Elizabeth was a longtime member of Abigail Phelps chapter of D.A.R. and Granby Civic Club. Since moving to Windham, she was a member of Benton Museum of Art, Windham Historical Society, Connecticut Botanical Society and an associate member of First Congregational Church of Willimantic. Her family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday between 6:00 and 8:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00am in Granby Cemetery, Rte 189, Granby, followed by a memorial service at 12:00pm at First Congregational Church of Granby, 219 N. Granby Rd., Granby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Rd., Windham, CT. 06280 or to Granby Grange.
