Elizabeth Meigs

December 7, 1931 — October 20, 2013

Elizabeth (Stevenson) Meigs, 81, of Brooklyn, CT passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013. She was supported in her final illness by a devoted family: her husband Joseph Carl Meigs and her three sons, Geoffrey, Jonathan and Edward. She is also survived by her brother, David B. Stevenson of Kingston TN. Born December 7th, 1931 in Statesville NC she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest College in 1952 with a degree in English and an exceptional group of lifelong friends. A particularly happy part of her life was spent in New Orleans, LA where she came to love teaching, her lifelong profession. She taught in a variety of settings including an inner city high school in Milwaukee WI. The longest portion of her career was spent teaching Mathematics at Windham High School from 1967 until 1997 and she touched the lives of many students. Her greatest happiness was to have her family around her especially at Christmas, a holiday she made magic. She took great pleasure from the companionship of the friends she made throughout her life. She will be missed by all of them as well as by her loving family. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Oct. 26th between 2:00 and 4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic.
