Elizabeth (nee Long) FOX, . . . affectionately called "Lib", or Libby, died on May 8, 2004 at the Saint Joseph Living Center, Windham, Connecticut. Lib was born in Atlanta, Georgia in November, 28, 1912, the daughter of the late Alfred and Annie (Little) Long of Atlanta, Georgia; and the widow of Dr. Harry Fox, who practiced dentistry in Willimantic from 1946 until his death in 1971. Harry and Lib were married on 21 December 1941 in Conyers, Georgia; after his release from the Army in 1945, they settled in Columbia and, later, lived in Windham Center. Lib was an avid golfer, and an active volunteer at the Windham Community Memorial Hospital where she sponsored the The Harry Fox American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Room. She was a Life Member of Hadassah, a member of the Willimantic Women's Club, and had in the past been a member of the Congregational Church of Windham Center and the Congregational Church of Willimantic. In June of 1971, Harry and some friends flew to Fisher?s Island, Long Island, NY, to participate in a golf tournament. The small plane in which he and other passengers were returning to Connecticut ran into extremely bad weather; the plane crashed into the Sound and all aboard were killed. His body was never recovered. A veteran's memorial tablet in his memory is located near the grave of his mother, Dina Fox. at the B'nai Israel Cemetery, Mansfield, CT. Lib is survived by her brother, Ernest E. Long and his wife, Jane Long, her niece, Lynn McDonald and her husband, William, and their children, Katie, Max and Will of Athens, Georgia, and by her late husband's nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren: Howard and Gertrude (Singer) Ogushwitz of Storrs, CT; Doris (Ogushwitz) and Peter Nichols of Mandeville, LA, Eve Barbara (Freedman) Schwartz of Evanston, IL, Israel Freedman of Bangkok, Thailand, Michael and Janet (Waid) Fox of Mill Vallley, CA, and Robert and Julie (Denny) Fox of Petaluma, CA. Harry and Lib did not have children. Lib is to be cremated; there will be a memorial service on Friday May 14, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Windham Community Memorial Hospital Education Center.
