Elizabeth S (Betty) Bauer, 86, of Storrs, wife of the late James M. Bauer, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 19, 2009. Betty was born in Niagara Falls, NY, to Elizabeth and William Jenks. She received a B.S. in Nursing and Home Economics from Michigan State College and Simmons College. She married Jim Bauer in 1948, and worked as a Public Health Nurse in Niagara Falls, NY and White Plains, NY. They moved to Storrs in 1952 and she went back to school at the University of Connecticut and received a M.S. in Community Health Nursing in 1977. She worked as a Visiting Public Health Nurse in Mansfield for many years. During university summer break, Betty and Jim and family and friends enjoyed their cottage on Long Lake in the Adirondacks, and after retirement stayed as long as the weather allowed. Betty and Jim made annual cross-country trips to visit friends and family. She enjoyed painting and woodcarving, and playing tennis and bridge. Betty leaves a brother Bill Jenks, two sons, Bill and David, a predeceasing son Jamie, who with his wife Joyce gave them three granddaughters, Christina, Sarah and Rebecca, and great-grandchildren Bethany, Julia, Kyle and Jonathon. A grandson by marriage, Richard, gave them another great-grandchild, Ian. A celebration of Betty's life will be held September 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m at the Storrs Congregational Church.
