EILEEN S. WOODWARD beloved wife of the late Edmond F. Woodward. Eileen was born December 6, 1923, in Davenport, Iowa to the late Hilmer and Eugenia Swanson. Eileen and Edmond were married for almost 58 years.
Eileen attended the University of Iowa and the University of Connecticut.
During her younger years after moving to Connecticut, Eileen was active in 4-H having served as a leader, and also in Cub Scouts of which she was a den mother. She was also a correspondent for the Willimantic Chronicle for several years. She worked for many years as a paralegal in her husband’s law office. She was always involved in various church activities, having served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, church clerk, and she was involved with missionary work at various churches. She was more recently active in the Scotland Congregational Church.
Eileen is survived by her son, Mark Woodward & wife Sue; a daughter, Patricia Woodward & husband Mark Sharp. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Matthew Sharp & wife Kristen, Grace Stewart & husband Jason, Sarah Sterritt & husband Justin, William Sharp & wife, Mariya, and Katie Ramer & husband Curt; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Aurora, Maeve, Alexandra, Max, Lily, Nora & Thomas.
She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Carter, and by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond F. Woodward, and her daughter, Janet D. Woodward.
The family will receive friends at 12:30 pm, with a funeral service at 1:30 pm, both on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT 06226, followed by interment in Storrs Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scotland Congregational Church.
She will be missed.
