Eileen Burke Obituary
Eileen Elizabeth Burke, a woman of creativity and spirited tenacity, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023, in Windham, CT. Born on June 4, 1936, in New Haven, CT. she was predeceased by her parents Luther D and Elizabeth “Tess” (Muzer) Burke of Madison CT.
Eileen graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 1958, and later earned a Master's degree. Eileen served in the United States Air Force, receiving an Honorable discharge in January of 1964 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Following her service, she transitioned into a career in education, teaching in various public schools and eventually retiring from Windham Public Schools.
Eileen was a talented seamstress and costumer, often lending her skills to theater productions and community events. She had a passion for genealogy and family history, tracing her roots back to Ireland. Eileen's love of history extended beyond her personal ancestry. She enjoyed traveling to historic sites in the US and Europe.
Eileen was a member of the First Congressional Church UCC of Willimantic, a former member of the Mothers and Others Club, and had been a dedicated volunteer at the Windham Textile and History Museum.
Eileen is survived by her loving family: her son, Herbert J. Bush of Glenwood Springs CO, his children Abram of Vernon CT and Maeve of Glenwood Springs CO, and their mother Kelly also of Glenwood Springs CO; and her daughter, Sarah J. Burke of Manchester CT, her husband Gary, and their son Benjamin.
The family wishes to thank Douglas Manor and Masonicare Hospice for the care they provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Windham Textile and History Museum or the First Congregational Church of Willimantic.
Eileen’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St., Willimantic.
