Edward "Windy Wendus

June 8, 1925 — December 16, 2015

Edward (Windy) Wendus, 90, of Columbia, CT passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 with family at his side. Edward is a veteran of WWII, landing on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, going ashore on day 2 with the Second Armored Division. He was awarded 5 major battle stars, including the Bronze Star, from the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of American Legion Post 0095 in Hebron and a lifetime VFW member of Post 1724 in Willimantic. In his retirement, after 30 years with Pratt and Whitney, Edward enjoyed traveling, raising a huge garden and the casinos. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Anna Wendus, a brother Stanley Wendus, a sister Helen Kulpa and a nephew Ronald Wendus. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Marge, son Bruce and wife Nancy, son Edward and wife Mary and daughter Karensue Wendus. Also, granddaughter Ashley Cook and husband Bill, grandson Matt Wendus and wife Jenn, grandsons Brent and Evan Sokolosky, granddaughter Lauryn Wendus, great granddaughters Phoebe and Chelsea Cook, and nephews Dominic Kulpa, Ronnie, Bobby and Michael Wendus. Our sincerest and deepest thanks and gratitude to the staff at Douglas Manor for their continuous loving care, the excellent services given by Hartford Healthcare at Home, and Windham Hospital. A special thanks to Dr. Peter Jones and his staff for their services over the many years. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 10:00AM at St. Columba Church, 328 Rtes 66 and 87, Columbia, CT, burial to follow at West Street Cemetery.
