Edward H. Sautter

December 13, 1928 — January 27, 2003

Edward H. Sautter, 74, of Storrs, devoted husband of E. Jean (Slinger) Sautter, went to be with the Lord on Monday January 27, 2003. He was born December 13, 1928 in Scotia, Nebraska. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in agronomy and soil science. He served honorably in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the James J. Shea American Legion Post #19 and VFW Post 1724. He moved to Storrs in 1972 and became the State Soil Scientist for Connecticut and Rhode Island for the U. S. D. A. He was the founder of the Society of Soil Scientists of Southern New England. Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church and active at the Mansfield Senior Center as a volunteer in the computer department. He loved gardening and the outdoors. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Otis Stanley and James Lowell and his wife Aya; his daughters Jennifer Lynn Heald and her husband John, and Angela Gay Lyon and her husband David; his brother Chester and his sisters Hazel Tuma and Mary Lukow. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren; Jessica Hornung and her husband Kevin, Elizabeth, Abigail, John Edward and Naomi Heald, Stephen, Gabriel and Peter Lyon. A memorial service will be held at Light on the Hill Christian Fellowship, South and South Park Streets in Willimantic on Saturday February 1, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. There are no calling hours.
