Edward Pollack, husband of Rita Pollack, resident of Storrs, died Friday (February 11, 2005) following a brief and valiant struggle with brain cancer. Dr. Pollack was born in the Bronx, attended City College and New York University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1963. He then began his 41-year-long career on the Physics faculty of the University of Connecticut, where he taught and did research in atomic collisions. Ed was also a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather, and shared with his family his passions for science, music, and traveling. In addition, he served on the board of CPTV. He leaves three children, Cindy Blazar of Gaithersburg, MD, Lois Pollack (and husband Ken Finkelstein) of Ithaca, NY, and Howard Pollack-Milgate (and wife Deborah Pollack-Milgate) of Avon, IN, and five grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Shirley Graf of Cheshire and Elaine Pollack of Bronx, NY, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 13 at the Temple B nai-Israel in Willimantic at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Hillel Burial Society Cemetery, Mansfield. A period of mourning will be held through Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. at the family home. Memorial donations may be made to the Edward Pollack Endowment for Physics, University of Connecticut Foundation, 2390 Alumni Drive, Storrs, Connecticut 06269-3206.
