Edward F. Mathieu

January 28, 1935 — August 1, 2025

Edward F. Mathieu, 90, the only child of John and Mary (Kozin) Mathieu, a lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away on August 01, 2025 peacefully at home. Upon graduating from High School, he served honorably as a member of the US Army during the Koren conflict era. Edward held numerous management positions during his tenure at SNET/AT&T retiring after 23 years with the company. Notably, among his many career achievements, he orchestrated the right away for the first fiber optic network on the east coast. He was a devoted family man and loved “woofies” (aka, dogs). He contributed to the local Columbia community serving on numerous town boards and committees. Edward was a dedicated member of the Columbia Lions Club. He was also a member of the local Willimantic Elks Club. Edward is predeceased by his wife of more than 65 years Marjorie. He is survived by his four children, Deborah (Byers) of New York City, John of Tolland, Mary (Arsenault) of Windham, and Michael of Columbia, as well as 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 9:00am to 10:30am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St, Willimantic. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd., Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbia Lions Club.
