Edward F. Huber, 49, of Storrs, CT died peacefully in his sleep on March 30, 2016, after a prolonged illness. Born in Mexico City on July 5, 1966, son of Robert Huber and Marianne Faivre Huber of Dixon, Illinois/New York City. Ed was a resident of Illinois, but grew up all over the world as he traveled with his family and helped with their business as international art dealers. As a child, he hunted for African trade beads and Latin American textiles, explored European castle ruins with his brothers, Michael and Stephen Huber, and through these experiences developed a lifelong love of the arts and the natural world. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Cornell College in 1990, which included study abroad at the American University of Paris. His senior project, The Smell of Art, was an exhibition of ceramics and textiles inspired by the travels of his youth. After graduation, Ed continued assisting with the family business in locations such as Chicago and New Orleans, as well as working within the service industry as a beverage manager. In New Orleans, Ed met Sarah Kate Stratton of Old Lyme, Connecticut. They were married in St. Lucia on August 17, 2001. In 2002, Ed established the Lost Nation Casting Company, a retail crafts gallery within Magazine Street?s arts district in New Orleans, where he produced and sold cement castings of sculptures, decorative accents, artifacts and antiquities. In 2005 the couple was displaced by Hurricane Katrina and ultimately relocated with their five cats to Sarah?s native state of Connecticut, where Ed resumed work as a craftsman. Though his life was cut tragically short by cancer, Ed?s 49 years were packed with unique experiences and adventures. He spent the last year of his life residing in the geodesic dome that he built, surrounded by friends, family, and felines. Ed is survived by his wife, his parents, brothers, niece Nicole, nephews Eric, Jareth and Alex, and extended family across the country. His East Coast relatives include his wife?s family: John Stratton of Old Lyme, Ellen Zahl and Vin Rogers of Storrs, Alison Stratton and Chris Evans of Meriden, and Owen Evans of North Haven. The family is planning several memorial services for the springtime which will be announced via the Potter Funeral Home website.
