Edward F. Red Moran, 84, of Mansfield, formerly of Willimantic, husband of the late Catherine Kay (Bombria) Moran, died Friday March 3, 2006 at Windham Hospital. He was born April 19, 1921 in Willimantic the son of Edward M. and Margaret (Conway) Moran. Red was a 1939 graduate of Windham High School and was a World War II Marine Corps veteran who participated in the landing at Iwo Jima. He had been employed at the Willimantic Post Office for over 30 years prior to his retirement and then became a driver for Dial A Ride for many years. As a communicant of St. Joseph Church, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector and was a member of the Legion of Mary. He was also active at the church Bingo. Red volunteered at area nursing homes and with the American Red Cross. He had been an active bowler at Lucky Strike Lanes and enjoyed card playing, bird watching, UConn Basketball and the Red Sox. He is survived by 2 sons and daughters in law, Edward M. and Lynn Moran Willimantic and Robert P. and Janet Moran of Sutton, VT.; 4 daughters and sons in law, Linda M. and Spencer Adams of Hamden, Susan E. and Walter Goettlich of Waterford, VT., Ellen and Jack Noheimer of Columbia and Eileen and Jeffrey Ossen of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a sister Elizabeth Marrotte of Willimantic and several nieces and nephews. His brother Joseph Moran died March5, 2006. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday between 6:00 and 8:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with assembly directly at the church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
