Edward J. Cichon Sr., 85, of Storrs, husband of Peggy (Kelley) Cichon, died Thursday July 27, 2006 at St. Joseph Living Center, Windham. He was born Sept. 13, 1920 in Willimantic the son of John and Sophie (Baran) Cichon and was a lifelong resident of the area and a communicant of St. Joseph Church. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1938 and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring after 20 years with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1958 he was named Superintendent of the Willimantic Waste Water Treatment Facility and retired in 1982. Ed was an avid golfer and a member of the Willimantic Country Club, where he won the Club Championship several times and more recently the Senior Club Championship. He was a life member of the Pulaski American Citizens Club, the Mansfield Senior Center, and was a founder and life member of the Connecticut Water Pollution Abatement Association. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Edward J. Cichon and daughter in law Debra Trantolo of Princeton, MA. , his daughter Ann M. Cichon and son in law Paul Anderson of Berlin, MA. and four granddaughters, Morgan and Daron Cichon and Katherine and Megan Anderson. He is also survived by a sister Betty Brand of Columbia and 3 brothers, Joseph Cichon and Stanley Cichon of Willimantic and Walter Cichon of Ellington and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Steffa Nacsin. His family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Sunday between 2:00 and 5:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, with assembly at the church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
