Edward Bury Obituary
Edward G. Bury, aged 90, passed away peacefully in his home on August 14, 2024, surrounded and comforted by his loving family.
Born on July 31, 1934, in Willimantic, Connecticut, to the late John and Apolina (Stelmac) Bury. Eddie spent many years at the Seaside Hospital in Waterford as a Tuberculosis patient and attended Mitchell College before returning to Willimantic. There he met his bride of 66 years while working at the American Thread and moved to Scotland, Ct where he built his life and family. Ed worked at Command Aircraft, Baltic Mills and Brand Rex but ultimately retired from Federal Paperboard in 1996 after 26 years of service to begin his next career as caretaker for his grandchildren.
Edward is predeceased by his siblings Stanley and Joseph Bury, Mary Tremblay (Bury) and Stephanie Koza (Bury), as well as a granddaughter Jessica Michaud, and many, many dear friends and family members.
He is survived by the Love of His Life and Best Friend Alice Bury (Mayo) and his 5 daughters Maryellen Dalpont, Carolyn Michaud, Susan Smith, Dorothy Stropparo and Patricia Bury. He also leaves behind 3 sons-in-law John Stropparo, Luigi Dalpont and David Russell, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as many dear nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors.
Edward was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He valued family above all else and appreciated that you build that family with love not biology. He understood the value of honesty and integrity, hardwork and determination, loyalty, commitment, and faith. He was a living example to all of us that the most important things in life are being a good person, loving and supporting your family, having faith and accepting that there is a reason for everything as well as understanding that there is a way to overcome every challenge if you work at it hard enough and don't let it be an excuse.
Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family whether building a puzzle, playing cribbage, a game of cards or Parcheesi, listening to Polkas, watching westerns or old movies, making new memories or sharing stories of those made long ago. He was a long time Red Sox fan and an avid chess player, he enjoyed spending a day at the races, fishing, reading, and shooting pool. He was a man with many talents building everything from furniture to barns, and handling everything from plumbing and electrical to landscaping and automotive work. He raised pigeons, rabbits and greyhounds successfully, played the harmonica, the organ and the accordion, enjoyed crypto quotes, word jumbles, crosswords and sudoku, and he spoke both English and Polish. He was confidant and advisor to many.
Edward spent his life doing anything and everything to make life a little lighter and brighter for those around him and to ensure they knew they had value and were loved. He will be sorely missed but will live forever in our hearts and the impact he made in this world will be indefinite.
There will be a Funeral Mass held at St. Mary's Church, 70 West Main Street Baltic, Ct on Saturday August 24th at 10:30 am. Immediately following the Mass there will be a Celebration of Life held at the Scotland Fire Department Hall, 47 Brook Road Scotland, Ct.
